Iskcon Food Life

Iskcon food for life is the world’s largest vegetarian food distribution program in which ISKCON Temples serves millions of meals to needy people daily, with projects in over 60 countries.

“The Krishna Consciousness movement is based on this philosophy chant Hare Krishna Mahamantra as much as possible, and distribute Prasadam”.

In Bhagavad Gita 9.5, Krishna said that he is ultimate source of all creation as well as the maintainer of all living entities.

If we have faith that Krishna is providing, maintaining and caring for everyone, then why should we suffer? In ISKCON, we have faith in Krishna that he will help us and by his mercy we will able to feed his devotees. Therefore, it is the instruction of Srila Prabhupada to daily distribute food within 10 miles radius of ISKCON temples. Simply by lovingly distributing Prasadam and Harinaam Sankirtan, the whole world can become peaceful and live a happy life.

Purpose of Food For Life Initiative

Food for Life initiative is a free food distribution program, which satisfies and makes healthy the body by providing high-quality vegetarian food to everyone. And it also satisfies the soul because the meal is cooked by the temple devotees and offered to Lord Krishna before it gets distributed to people. Thus it becomes Krishna Prasadam, a spiritual meal that nourishes both body and soul.

In the Bhagavad Gita, It has been stated, “The devotees of the Lord are free from all kinds of sins because they eat food which is offered first for sacrifice. Others, who make food for personal sense enjoyment, verily eat only sin”.

Therefore, Food for Life is the highest welfare service for human beings.

FOOD-LIFE IN ISKCON

How Food for Life initiative started?

It was the incident of 1974, when A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada was shocked by seeing a group of village children, fighting with street dogs for scraps of food in Mayapur (near Kolkata), after seeing this incident, Srila Parbhupad told his disciples: “No one within ten miles of a ISKCON temple should go hungry . . . I want you to begin serving meal at once to needy people.

In the 1970s, ISKCON expanded its goal of prasadam distribution and developed the Food for Life initiative to target food distribution to the needy people.

We request you kindly help us in this mission to feed needy people at large by providing kind donations to us.
